THE STORY AND WHY WE ARE SUPPORTING THE BRITISH LUNG FOUNDATION In 2011 our Dear Mom had a cough, a cough that would come and go, but a cough that was actually the start of a death sentence. In 2011 our Mom was told she had Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis 'IPF'. Our Mom being our Mom never told anyone the diagnosis, all she mentioned was she had tests and was nothing to worry about, she was never one to fuss, never wanted to be a burden on anyone, especially us, and would never want our lives to stop for her. In her heart she probably believed she could beat anything and carried on putting herself after everyone else. Around Xmas 2013 our Mom started getting out of breath doing small things like walking up the stairs, she would pass it off as a chest infection. February 2014 came and as many of us did, she caught a cold and really started to stuggle with her breathing, she was sent to Hospital. After a brief improvement at the hospital, things took a turn for the worse, her lungs were too weak to fight it, but believe me she fought with all her might, even the doctors at the hospital couldn't believe she was still fighting with such low oxygen levels. I knew she was fighting for us, fighting for 4 days straight, taking 4 times as many breaths a minute as you are reading this, deep down she knew her fate but tried to hang in there to see Bradley one more time who was on his flight home from New Zealand, she didn't quite make it, I imagine 4 days out of breath is a long time for someone with normal lungs let alone our Moms. IPF is a fatal illness, an illness that can run in families, and as yet there is no cure, or proven medication, which makes it more deadly than most diseases, and eventually it was too much for our 'wonder-woman' Mom. We all take our breath for granted, and at times we all take our Moms for granted, like you we'd think 'these things can't happen to us', dont ever be ignorant to this, make sure the people that matter to you know just how much you love them. In October 2014 Myself, Victoria, Bradley and our Mom's best friends daughter Vicky Hartle ran the Birmingham Half Marathon in Memory of our Mom and to raise money for the British Lung Foundation, thank you to everyone who has kindly donated so far, please read the charity section to find out how we are doing.
